New green home opens out to the lake
For this new, 6,700-sq.-ft. house, the Schultz Miller team worked with architects Peter Cohan and Tom Maul to construct a building that is grounded to its site. Along with local materials such as cedar and fir, the house features a series of short interior staircases that follows the contours of the land. A 98-ft.-long window wall further blurs the distinction between the generous patio and the main living spaces. Many elements are fastened with concealed fasteners, which makes details appear simple and clean, though the implementation is actually very complicated. The 3-star BuiltGreen-rated home includes radiant-heated floors, a heat recovery ventilation system, and a rainwater harvesting system.
